Facelift

Improvement of the jowls, cheeks, and neck can be obtained with a facelift. Incisions are made in front and behind the ear and in the temporal hairline. An additional incision beneath the chin may be required if necessary to further improve the neck. A two layer facelift is most commonly formed because facial aging is seldom as result of skin laxity alone. Elevation and redirection of the internal facial fat layer (SMAS) allows for upward redistribution of facial fat to obtain a more youthful appearance. Recovery from facelift surgery involves a two week period of swelling and bruising that subsides gradually over that period of time. After stitches are removed at the end of the first week postoperatively, many patients may begin to wear makeup which conceals the bruising.
