Dermal Fillers- Injectables  for Improvement of Facial aging

The desire for Improvement of fine lines and wrinkles with procedures performed in the office has led to the development  of injectable substances . There are numerous choices available today when it comes to “injectables” that treat fine lines and wrinkles of the face.  The dermal filler revolution began a decade ago with Hyaluronic acid (HA) products, and Dr. David Sterling Slatton has been using these FDA approved dermal fillers in his practice for over a decade.  HA fillers have largely replaced Collagen as the injectable dermal fillers of choice because of their extremely low incidence of allergic reaction which obviated skin testing, and the greater longevity of results from HA fillers.  Restylane®, Perlane®, and Juvederm® are all Hyaluronic acid injectable agents.  They all consist of a clear gel that is injected beneath the skin with a very tiny needle.

Injectable fillers from other substances have become popular and widely used because of their efficacy and safety.  Radiesse® (Calcium hydroxyapatite) is one of these non hyaluronic acid fillers that Dr. David Sterling Slatton uses in his practice.

Restylane Treatments

Restylane®, the first commercially available Hyaluronic acid dermal filler, produces improvements in the superficial fine lines of the face, and can be used to augment the lips, reduce marionette lines and smoker’s lines and treat the nasojugal groove (tear trough).  Dr. David Slatton believes in reducing the pain of injections with the use of topical anesthetics to the area of injection, the uses of nerve blocks before injections, and the use of lidocaine within the injectable material.  This allows for patient comfort and ease so that discomfort is minimized and cosmetic improvement is maximized.

After Restylane® became widely used , other Hyluronic acid fillers were introduced in the market—with larger sized microspheres of HA designed to fill deeper skin and subcanteous layer produce more volume per injection and last longer.  The other Hyaluronic Acid Fillers that Dr. David Slatton uses are Perlane® and Juvaderm®.

Perlane Treatments

Perlane® is a Hyaluronic Acid Filler that has a slightly larger microsphere size than Restylane®.   This allows for Perlane® to be injected in the subcutaneous fat layer beneath the dermis which creates a greater degree of volume enhancement for deeper facial lines than Restylane®.  The effects of Perlane® last around 6 months, and a longer duration of effect has been observed with this product.

Juvéderm Treatments

Juvederm® is a hyaluronic acid filler that can improve nasolabial folds,  lines around the mouth (Marionette lines and smoker’s lines)  and lips as well as areas of the cheeks and along the tear trough regions.  The longevity of Juvederm® is usually around 6 -8 months, and longer lasting effects have been noted with this filler material.

Your comfort with injectable dermal fillers is always prioritized.

Most hyaluronic acid fillers have formulations with lidocaine which helps minimize discomfort with injections.

Radiesse

Calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse®)—is made from the substance of bone matrix.  It works as a dermal filler by promoting collagen matrix formation beneath the skin…but its result is immediate and long lasting.   Of all the commercially available injectable dermal fillers, Radiesse® lasts the longest. Radiesse® can last for a year although it is not permanent.   It produces substantial volume per injection for improvement… It is comparable to autologous (your own) fat injection in the volumetric results obtained.  Radiesse® is best used for deep facial folds such as the nasolabial folds, and marionette lines around the mouth and many other areas of the face with the exception of the lips. Its benefit over fat transfer is that it is administered with a pre filled syringe, while fat injections require harvesting of fat from a donor site on the body (e.g. hip, abdomen) and thus takes less time to receive and  to recover (bruising and swelling are minimal).  Radiesse® can also be used for nasal contouring, chin augmentation, refinement after rhinoplasty surgery and hand rejuvenation.

Liquid Facelift

The Liquid Facelift is an office procedure which combines dermal fillers and botox treatments.   Dermal fillers are used to improve fine lines and wrinkles of the lower face, enhance the lips, and even treat the areas of the cheek and tear trough region. Botox® will smooth forehead wrinkles, vertical frown lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet.   A combination of Botox and injectables can improve the down turned corners of the mouth.  There is little down time with the Liquid Facelift procedure, and patient comfort is emphasized for the procedures involved.  Within a few days you will see a marked improvement in your facial appearance.
